Have you ever been in a situation where you were really helpless. You could not "save yourself"? Helpless!! I recently was in such a position where I could not save myself out of the situation. It required someone else coming to my rescue. Until that time I just had to sit in the "darkness of my experience" and pray.
There was a Swiss chamis-hunter (chamois being a small goat like antelope) who fell into one of the enormous crevasses of the Mer de Glace. He fell quite a way without hurting himself. Yes, his situation seemed hopeless. He could not climb out - cold water would soon freeze him to death.
He noticed a stream of water flowing down the crevasse so he followed it - wading, stooping, even crawling at times. Once even floating. Soon he reached what one could call an opening - like a ceiling. BUT no visible outlet. Waters were threatening. He could not return the way he came in. Staying would be death.
So, he prays to God - like commending himself to God - and the guy plunged into the whirling water. THERE WAS DARKNESS. I think probably terror (like I experienced) and THEN he was thrown up into the Vale of Chamouni. (Eastern France) There he saw the flowers and the hay-fields.
How many of my readers need deliverance from some "dark experience" Hands up!! The true experience I have related of that individual shows me that there IS light at the end of the tunnel. l Even though I do not see the light from my present position. By faith, I KNOW it is there.
Perhaps there is a glimmer of light. That light does come from the Lord Jesus, himself. You know that scripture in Psalms 23:4 don't you?
"Though I walk through the valley of shadow (darkness) ..you are with me."Being a child of God does not mean that you will never have a dark experience, but it does mean that HE is with you in that experience. Like Peter says, "You are a chosen people...a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness in to His wonderful light." Hold on to Him while in the dark. He will not fail you. You will come out!
Lord, I ask, in the name of Jesus, that this special person reading these lines be strengthened through what might be termed a very dark experience. I ask that you give them strength to hold on to you and also give them light of understanding.
Amen
