While the story has been told and re-told, every time I think of it I try to see in it a happening in my life!! It goes like this.
Two painters were employed to fresco the walls of a magnificent cathedral. Both stood on a rude scaffolding constructed for that purpose. One, so intent upon his work, forgetting where he was, stepped back slowly, surveying critically the work of his hand, until he had neared the edge of the plank.
At that moment his companion, just seeing the danger, grabbed a wet brush, and flung it against the wall, spattering the picture.
The painter who was in danger ran forward, turned to his friend with fierce anger...until he observed the danger he had escaped. Then, there were tears of gratitude. He "blessed" the man who had saved him.
Sometimes, my friend, when I get all absorbed with something I am doing or involved IN I am not awares of an approaching danger. I will use the word, "affliction" here. It seems that God will allow such to happen to me to STOP me from a direction I may be heading. So in His mercy he draws us to his arms and keeps us from what we are even unaware of.
The painter's Psalm could well have been - Psalm 91:11
"For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways."The Lord says that "because he (you) loves me, I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble.
Lord, how often has this one been spared, protected and delivered from unknown danger? We bless you for that and acknowledge that often times what seems to be a "downer" is really, in effect, a "salvation". Bless this one to that end, in the name of Jesus.
Amen
