Words for Courageous Living

Rise Up

King City, California, USA has a high school that still conducts baccalaureate. I have delivered the address on a number of occasions, but one that really stands out in my mind is the one entitled: "Graduates-weights to Wings". Let me give you my introduction. The story is told of how birds got their wings.

It seems that when God made birds they did not originally have wings. God, then made wings and placed them down before the birds. The wingless birds were told to pick them up. Well, they said, "These are burdens and they are too hard to bear". The birds had beautiful feathers, could sing wonderfully, but they could not fly. After awhile, one had the nerve to pick up the wings, place them on their back with their beaks.

Naturally for awhile the load seemed unbearable, but as they went on carrying the burdens they discovered that as the wings grew on their bodies how to use them.

The Weights Became Wings

A J.R. Miller wrote, "It is a parable. We are the wingless birds and our duties and tasks are the pinions God has made to lift us up and carry us heavenward."

The writings in Isaiah 40:31:

"They shall mount up with wings as eagles."

My friend, if you will lift your burdens cheerfully, they will become a blessings. Trust me!

My prayer for you

Lord, I ask that this one reading these lines purpose to take what may appear to them a burden (no matter what it is) and use it as a wing! A wing to soar high toward you amid difficulty. Encourage this one with renewed faith to bend their shoulders to receive the burden and then to "faith a flight" in the name of Jesus.

Amen
