DETOURS
A few years ago I was making a hospital call in San Jose, California. As I drove along the highway I spied what seemed to be a roadblock ahead. Then I noticed those red/orange cones along the way. My first react was one of disgust. I would have to turn around, or use a detour. My time was tight. I did not have time for a delay. I went through the streets of my mind deciding what I would do with the rest of the day with appointments, etc..
When I reached the repair area, I disovered that I simply had to follow the space left for me to drive in. There was no detour. There was no delay.
I have since thought of that experience. How like it is in our lives. You know, my friend, you may be worrying about a road block that is coming up in your life in the days ahead. Maybe tomorrow there is something happening - maybe next week you have a special appointment, etc..
I like the words of Jesus:
"Do not be anxious about tomorrow for tomorrow will take care of itself." (Matt. 6:34)
So, do not spent time and energy worrying about tomorrow. It is easy for me to say, "Trust in God, and live in the present, not the future.", but I say this for myself as well. It is a kind of lesson that one has to keep on learning.
I ask, Lord, that together we agree to keep our eyes on today...with a trust for tomorrow. Further, may this one keep their eyes on you instead of their projected problems. In this is life abundantly.
Amen
