One Who has Died to Sin
And the Ruling Power of Sin Should Never Want To Walk in It Again
Romans 6:11-14 We are no longer slaves to sin but have become slaves to Christ.
We are dead to the enslaving power of sin.
We have a day-to-day choice.
Christ's resurrection power is at work in us.
We are free from sin's demands.
Say "no" when it confronts me.
Romans 6:16,24 Obey Christ, my new Master.
Romans 6:17,20 It is my old selfish nature working in me.
Romans 7:24,25 "body of death" - figure of a person chained to a corpse from which he cannot be freed, despairing deliverance. Despair gives way to victory. Human strength is exceeded by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 8:1-11 The Holy Spirit's Presence in me is the very life of Christ!
Romans 8:13-17 Choose to put to death fleshy actions. I am a child of God calling Him, Father. As I yield myself to Him, Jesus becomes the very fulfillment of the Word of God.
We are to actively work at putting to death any sin in our hearts or minds as well as words or actions. Yet in spite of the fact that we put forth effort, it is only "by the Spirit" that we succeed. Being "led by the Spirit" - means progressively putting to death sinful appetites of the lower nature.
"Led" translated is "as many as are continually led by the Spirit of God means being sensitive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit throughout the day.
Romans 8:26 Spirit helps us in our groaning - takes part with us - makes our weak prayers effective - out groans, loud cries and tears and other expressions of our heart are taken by the Holy Spirit and made into effectual intercession by the Holy Spirit and made into effectual intercession before the Throne of God.
