Words for Courageous Living

February 26th

Above the Clouds

Years ago our vacation at the beach house was interrupted by a death of a friend. I was returning from fishing on the pier and noticed a patrol car in front of our rented beach house. I was then informed upon entering the house that I was needed back in King City.

As I drove away from the ocean I left a beautiful, sunny, clear sky day. However, as I drove over the mountain which separates the valley from the ocean, I encountered dark, thick clouds. They remained even throughout the funeral. But the interesting thing that has stayed in my mind is the comment the son of the deceased said. "When you mentioned that the sun was still shining, though we could not see it, that really impressed me." Now, that fact was certainly known before that time, but saying it in the context of the funeral reinforced his faith.

On speaking of the dark - the psalmist said,

"Even there shall your hand lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, surely the darkness shall cover me, even the night shall be light about me. Psalm 139:10-11"

Yes there are clouds we encounter in our living. Some of them are as dark and black as the ones through which I drove (and literally so on top of the mountain). But faith-up, they will pass.

May I pray for you?

Lord, I ask that this one be reminded that as clouds hover over, the light has not really gone. The "Son" is still shinning. May your hand truly lead this one.

Amen
