Words for Courageous Living

Water to Drink?

Thirst is a word that can be applied to areas other than water. For example, one can thirst for something in the mind or one can thirst emotionally for something. I suppose the list could go on - in fact, something might be coming to your mind right now?

I am sure you have heard of the mighty Amazon River in South America. I ran across this story sometime ago that is really interesting. It goes like this. The Amazon River is such a strong river that its water force flows out into the Atlantic Ocean some 2300 miles.

During WW II some fishermen noticed 2 men drifting in a lifeboat - evidently the result of a submarine attack. As they approached the occupants, they moaned, "water, water". One of the fisherman climbed into the lifeboat, filled a bucket with water from the sea. He held it up to the parched lips of the man. The guy was perplexed with the water being offered from the sea. His eyes were filled with both gratitude and wonder. You see, the water was cool and sweet.

The salvation of "water" was at his fingertips all the while they were drifting. You see the force and volume of the Amazon River pushes aside the salt water for a great distance.

I need not tell you that life is full of "salt" experiences. But I hasten to tell myself as well as you that Jesus said,

"Whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst."

I want to push those words from John 4 from my office to the area where you are reading. Let it push away the "salt" of perhaps a bitter experience in your life. Drink deeply, my friend. Jesus has so much to impart to us if we would but reach out in faith to receive...yes, even amid a difficult experience.

May I pray for you?

Lord, I ask in the name of Jesus, that this friend reach outside of their "lifeboat" and receive and yes, even drink of your water. It will satisfy - further, there is no limit - and it is free. You said, "...if you are thirsty, come." yes, We come!

Amen
