Words for Courageous Living

December 13th

Your Holy of Holies

I want to liken myself to a lion...or, perhaps an eagle. WHY? And, why would I want you to be likewise? Simply because I have noticed that crows go in flocks - wolves go in packs, but lions and the eagle are by themselves...like solitaires.

Now, don't get me wrong. I am not promoting being a hermit or being a "loner". My point is found in Matt 14:23

"He (Jesus) went up into a mountain apart."

For years and years (like more than 25) I have always taken off most every Thursday morning after a standing 9:00 a.m. meeting with the pastors in our city. I go up to the mountains. Years ago I leased an old abandoned one room school house - then I was offered a cabin for many years. For the past number of years I take the RV out. (I have my computer and cell phone.) I can get so much more work done alone "up there" than "down here".

But back to Jesus, what did he do? He got off by himself. I think that that is one of the most neglected facets of our spiritual/physical living. The idea of getting ourself quiet. I once read that strength is not in bluster and noise, but is in quietness.

According to the Bible, Jesus loved the people, but he often got away from them for a brief time. He was always going "to the hills" - and a lot at night.

The thing I am trying to do more of here at home is just take time to be with the Lord - it is like, sitting at His feet - in privacy.

I guess the matter of meditating in His glorious presence is wanting. I know that when one does get alone with their thoughts they can then present them to the Lord and get a better perspective on life. Have you tried it lately??

Prayer

Lord, I know that every life that would be strong must have its Holy of Holies into which only you can enter. Bless this one when they indeed enter such a place. Give them the strength of the lion for courageous living and the soaring of their faith like that of the eagle. In the name of Jesus.

Amen
