Words for Courageous Living

The Eye Direction

It is so easy to look DOWN. In fact, it seems that my head just naturally falls to a downward position. I find that true when I am walking. To have good posture one must sit or stand erect and lift the head.

When one is going through a tough time it is easy to let the head fall down. But, my friend, need I tell you that that does not make for healthy posture OR attitude.

In fact, if we don't look upward - we might find that we are REALLY in trouble. Take for example, Peary, the Arctic explorer.

In his writings he states that he and his party were traveling poleward at the rate of ten miles a day. BUT they discovered that the ice floe on which he was sledging was drifting toward the equator at the rate of twelve miles a day!! Wow! So, actually, he was loosing two miles each day. How did he find out what was happening? HE LOOKED HEAVENWRD. He looked UP!

We must look skyward - we must look up is we are to make progress. If we - as pilgrims (or explorers in our own right) are to get someplace we will not make progress gazing on the ground. No one can be certain of advancing without looking up. King David put it this way in Psalm 123:1

"I lift UP MY EYES to you, to you whose throne is in heaven."

He who would win the race (through what ever is a negative things to you at this time) must look to Jesus. After all, He is the author and finisher of our faith.

May I pray for you?

Lord, I ask, in the name of Jesus, that this dear friend lift up their eye. As we read, "I will lift up my eyes to the hills." "Where does my help come from?" "It comes from the Lord, God." In doing so may the things (difficulties) of this world grow strangely dim, in the light of your glory and grace.

Amen
