Words for Courageous Living

The Way to Respond

There are so many things that happen to us - - and the outcome is good! However, during such times - that are bad - we sometimes fail to see the glory in the pain or the reward in the trouble.

Someone wrote that life is about 20% in what HAPPENS TO YOU and 80% in the way we respond to the events. I do like that!

God put it this way in Romans 12:21,

"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

There are some many individuals who could come to this keyboard and type their story. But let me do it for them:

Cripple him and you have a Sir Walter Scott. Lock him in a prison cell, and you have a John Bunyan. Bury him in the snows of Valley Forge, USA and you have a George Washington.

Raise him in poverty in you have an Abraham Lincoln, one great president of America. Strike him down with infantile paralysis and he becomes another president of the USA, Franklin Roosevelt.

Burn him so severely that the doctors say he'll never walk again and you have a Glenn Cunningham - who set the world's one mile record in l934. Deafen him and you have a Ludwig van Beethoven. Have him or her born black in a society filled with racial discrimination, and you have a Booker T. Washington, a Mariana Anderson, a George Washington Carver. Call him a slow learner, "retarded", and write him off as uneducable and you have an Albert Einsten.

So I write to you, my friend, that how you respond to what is happening to you is really important.

Paul is put in prison and writes that because of this "bad" a victory is coming to the gospel. I suppose that the bottom line is spelled ATTITUDE. So, I have to ask myself and ask you, what's your attitude toward the circumstance??

My prayer for you!

Lord, how true it is that our response to events make us or break us. May this one's attitude be raised to see "over the fence" of a difficulty, in the name of Jesus.

Amen
