Words for Courageous Living

Did You Know God Has a Lap?

When my kids were young, I would often tell bed-time stories. It was interesting, frustrating, and hilarious to "make them up as I go". Even to this day sometimes when the grandchildren are spending the night (or we at their house) I am asked to TELL ME A STORY!! My son, Darrin, recently told me he still remembers some of them - even the names I gave some of the animals and insects.

I recall in DARRIN's (who is now married and has two children of his own) that on several occasions I recorded the story (at their request). Once in visiting Darrin and his wife, Debbie, he told me that he had played the old tape...and still enjoyed them, ha.

Funny thing, I just this morning read of a teenager who had grown tired of reading bedtime stories to his little sister decided to record some of the more favorite ones on tape.

He told his sister that she could hear them anytime she wanted. He thought it was a great idea, but after she looked at the tape recorder for a moment said, "No. No. It is not a good idea. It does not have a LAP."

Well, my friend, that is true, we all need a lap. We need the closeness of relationship. We need to know that we are loved. Sometimes (even as an adult) I pretend that I am sitting in my HEAVENLY FATHER'S lap. There is sweet communion and it reminds me of the time when Jesus was with some children. The scripture says in Mark 9:36,

"Then He took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And when He had taken him in His arms (lap) He said...whosoever receives one of these little children in My name receives me."

When you feel all alone; when you feel things just could not get any worst; when you feel like giving up; when you feel like "what's the use"; when you feel like everything is going wrong....then that is the time to jump up in His lap.

The good news is that it will not be a "generic" recording anyone can hear, but a very personal relationship with you and the Father. No one, but no one is too big or old - for His lap.

May I pray for you?

Thank you, Lord, that you are available with your lap 24/7 for this one. Blessings, honor and glory go to you, Father for being "our Father" who has a loving ear to hear and great strength to provide.

Amen
