Words for Courageous Living

October 24th

Acceptance

I received my Ph.D degree in 1971. One of the books for required reading was "Psycho-Cybernetics" by Dr. Maxwell Maltz. In this book a famous surgeon says that 90 % of college young people surveyed were unhappy with the way they looked. This would explain why many people go to plastic surgeons to have "physical defects" (real or imagined) corrected.

Dr. Maltz says, "Sometimes operations result in dramatic character and personality changes, but most times the personality is unaffected." His conclusion is: Each of us must find an acceptable self image of ourselves if we are to live useful, satisfying lives.

It is true we need to change things that we can and accept things that we can't change. I like what I read in Ecc 3:11

"He has made everything beautiful in His time."

Since God created man in His own image, then I can say, you are beautiful in God's eyes. Sometimes when a person is going through ugly experiences it rubs off in their attitude/image of themselves. I believe that if we can come to accept and even love ourselves, our attitude toward adverse circumstances WILL change.

Practically all of our married life, my wife has had these words posted on the refrigerator: "God made you as you are in order to use you as He planned." "Thank you Lord for reminding me that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Please give me the grace to rejoice in who I am and surrender myself just as I am to you. Amen."

I trust these words will be a blessing to you - a beautiful person in God's eyes.

MY PRAYER FOR YOU

Thank you Father for bringing this one to an acceptance of who they are, as they are!!

AMEN
