Words for Courageous Living

September 3rd

Life Does have Barbs

Let me share with you what my dad shared with me and what I have shared with my children when they were young.

When I was a kid fishing with my dad (and even in subsequent years) I sometimes caught something else than a fish. What?? MY FINGER or arm!!

What my dad, Lloyd Joe Carlson, Shreveport, La., taught me (and me to my children and they to theirs) is the procedure of REMOVING the hook.

"Forward and back" You know, most people imagine, at first, try to remove the hook by just pulling it out the way it went in. BUT, obviously, one has to go a little further WITH THE PAIN and then that little "barb" on the hook sorta releases. (Am I making sense?)

There have been so many times, I am sure, in your life that you had to go a little further with the discomfort or pain before "the good" or the healing took place. Romans 8:18 records:

"I consider that our present sufferings (pain) are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us."

I take that for the present and the future, my friend. You see there is pain after any operation, but when we recover, the memory of it almost vanishes. There is pain with broken relationships, financial burdens, job difficulties, etc., but I have spoken to you the "Good News".

You see, Jesus knew pain, so He understands your pain now - be it physical or emotional. Just that facts "sticks" with me with confidence!

!

My prayer for you, my friend.

Lord, I ask that you help this one deal with their "pain". We can, by faith, look to the time when the present will not be as it is. In the name of Jesus.

Amen
