Words for Courageous Living

Let the Brass Say So

I played the trumpet for many years. I was in the Jennings, Louisiana, USA band, the Creswell Jr. High Band, and Byrd High School Band both in Shreveport, Louisiana, USA. In Louisiana College, Pineville, Louisiana, USA I played in the stage and marching band. Hearing the sharp clear sound of a trumpet note is "note worthy".

I heard once of an old Jewish legend about Lucifer, after he had failed/got kicked out of heaven. He was asked what he missed most? His reply was, "I miss most of all the trumpets that are sounded in heaven each morning."

You know, my friend, I think I might miss that from myself also. Like, am I sounding a trumpet of thanksgiving each morning. Or am I saying, "Oh me - or oh poor me."

I am persuaded that this is a major lack among Christian people today. We need to blow and hear the trumpet of thanksgiving, EVEN AMID heart aches. I have found that many are apt to sound a trumpet - not of praise and thanksgiving to God, but the trumpet of misery and poor me.

Instead of a joyous song, there seems to be the sad song. We need less of the spirit of sadness and melancholy and more of the of joy that thrilled the heart of the Psalmist.

He said, "Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet." Again, "Praise Him upon the loud cymbals." As literally, a trumpet player can choose the music to play, so we, too, can choose the type music to come forth from our being. In sadness, difficulty, sorrow, heart aches, abuse, trouble please choose the upbeat music of thanksgiving.

That is the word in 1 Thess 5:18,

"Give thanks IN all circumstances." It is not the giving of thanks FOR (that would be absurd) the circumstances, but give thanks IN. This is the way to command a blessing of God in your life.

May I pray for you?

Lord, I ask that this on-line reader be given the courage to let their ears hear their mouth speak a word of thanksgiving. Truly a trumpet call of awakening - whether in the morning or in the evening. Lord, we do praise you for who you are. In the name of Jesus.

Amen
