Words for Courageous Living

June 10th

Sin Does Have Power

I begin by stating, "FRETTING IS A SIN" I believe that because the Word states, "Whatever is not of faith is sin." (Romans 14:23)

Yet, don't we all come near the cliff of fretting. We get over concerned about what may, or may not come about. I think that the fine line is there between being concerned and fretting. Webster defines "fretting" among other things as; to cause to suffer emotional strain; to eat or gnaw into; to make by wearing away a substance. I like "biting" or "gnawing away". Isn't that what happens to us when we are involved in the fretting? We, literally, are being in the action of wearing away.

Well, it is so important to stay away from that fine line, by driving our life in safer lanes.

I like this story I read years ago. Seems a man advertized for a chauffeur. There were several applicants. There were a number of questions asked, but one important one was. "How close to the edge of a cliff can you drive without going over?"

One man said, "A yard." Another said, "A foot." The third man replied, "I always try to keep as far away as possible."

Without a doubt, the third man got the job. The bottom line is we must never underestimate the strength or power of sin - - in this case "fretting". We truly are in danger of defeat if we underestimate that strength that lies in the pull of temptation. Of course, temptation is not sin, it is yielding.

My friend, stay as far away from the cliff of "fretting" on your road of life. This is accomplished by shifting into God and trusting Him in all things. Like He says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not on your own undersanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths."

My prayer for you:

Lord, by your Holy Spirit, keep this one far away from the edge of fretting. Keep them in the "diamond lane" of faith. They have the right to drive that way because of your presence with them. In Jesus' name.

Amen
