Roots To Wind: "You Can't Touch Me"

I used to live in a town called King City, California (official name is the City of the King) One of my e-mail contacts from Australia said she could really run with that in terms of Christian advertising. Anyway it is a town where the wind makes its appearance every day around 1-2:00 p.m. Most of us do not complain of the wind, because every now and then when we do not have the wind, it gets rather hot.

To explain to you how strong the wind is many of the trees in the city grow crooked. Why? Because as small trees they could not resist the wind and they grew off center. We have a new tree in our front yard. Just yesterday I mentioned to my wife, Nancy, that we need to re-stake it because already it is showing signs of leaning.

But amid all this - I also know something else about the wind. It CAN NOT AFFECT THE ROOTS. The wind blows, the small limbs sway, even the top of the tree trunk moves, BUT NOT the roots.

So when I apply that to some of the winds that have hit my head on recently. I say to the wind, "Blow on, but my root structure is going to stand firm." While the wind blows off the dead limbs, blows away dead leaves and may even shake off ripe fruit on the tree, I am going to maintain my soul firm on the Rock of Ages. In fact the wind might even blow away some notions that were not true, keeping my heart at peace.

Paul said it well, (1 Cor 3:11)

"For other foundation can no man lay than that which is already laid, which is Jesus." Amid what you are going through right now, plant your feet solid on the

teachings of Jesus and you will stand firm.

Let's pray

Lord, I ask in the name of Jesus, that while this one is subject to many winds of adversity, that they rest their case ON you. May they be firmly grounded. While all may be windy around them, give them your peace and security.

Amen
