Words for Courageous Living

Out of Tune

I was amused and yet found it so interesting. People who have musical ability noticed that errand boys in a certain part of London all whistled out of tune. After much discussion it was suggested that it might be the bells of Westminster were just a little out of tune. True - something had gone wrong with the chimes and they were, as the article stated, "discordant".

The boys did not know there was anything wrong and they had quite unconsciously copied them.

I know that the Bible says we tend to become like the people we associate with. It is so true. I am sure you will agree with me. Our copy facility is quite keen.

The article went on to say, "In the Bible God has given us a word that is always in proper tune. It is tuned as a standard for our singing and for our songs. There is a pitch in it for life now and for life eternal."

That is why, my friend, we need to sing by God's pitch in the Word.

A good example would be when one is going through a really hard time. I mean the situation is really tough. It is easy to fall prey to negative notes, i.e. "poor me" "things will never change" etc. etc. However, if we can change our spiritual pitch to a positive note, I can testify that it does make a difference. Trust me. No... trust God!

It is easy to be sensitive to the false notes that are being broadcast in the world. The world's music is not the Word's music. That is why Paul, writing in Romans 12:2 says, "Be in the world, but not of the world." Actually he is saying, "Be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."

My prayer for you

Lord, I ask that we tune up our way - our actions, our thoughts and attitudes. May they be on your pitch. Then, and only then will beautiful music come from us. The prettiest music, written in the key of B-saved comes from the cross. May your music flow through this special person, in Jesus' name.

Amen
