Words for Courageous Living

July 7th

20/20 Vision

There is a disease which physicians call "hemiopsia". I just looked up the word in a book that a M.D. friend of mine, Dr. Fred O'Brein, gave me. Before I give you the definition I want to quickly state that spiritually and emotionally one can suffer that "disease".

Here is the definition. Changes in the visual field - portions of the optic pathways are damaged. It results in half-vision. Blindness for 1/2 of the full view.

In many cases the person can see only half of an object. Like, for example, he will see a man without a head; or with head and body and no lower limbs. Or, with half head, one eye, half nose, half mouth, and chin, one arm, half body and one leg. Pretty bad, huh?

Now while few have this bodily affliction I think that mentally many have. The many who have it never see both sides of any question at one time. Or, to put it another way more pertinent to this web page, see only one half of the picture they are living

.

With this inability to see the "whole" one can easily criticize the half. Many take their frustration out on God or on someone else.

If you are experiencing difficulty in seeing the broad picture of your life (like going through a stressful time) ask God to give you TOTAL vision of the experience. I know in my own life, when I do that my half-vision dictates a different attitude. I do want the mind/vision of Christ.

"Now I know (see) in part, but then shall I know even as I am known." (1 Cor. 13:12)

Prayer

Lord, how we want to see as you see. In obtaining such this one will be better able to cope, understand and be confident in their situation. Until that time comes may they exercise their eye of faith. In the name of Jesus.

Amen
