Over on the coast where my children live there is a HUGE ROCK in the bay. It is called Morro Bay Rock. It rises really high. In fact it is the largest of 7 mountain peaks (the other ones being inland) that used to be used by airplane pilots for navigation.
When I see it (in fact it is the rock that is visible behind my picture on my home page of this web site) I realize its stability. How many storms have hit it in the past centuries. I say to myself, "Wow - that is what God is to ME."
You know God is compared to a rock in the scripture. Why? Well, to begin with the rock is steadfast; its stability, as contrasted with the ocean waters. We are told "With Him there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."
Also, the rock is often chosen as the site of a stronghold. It gives security. People build a fort or a castle upon a rock. In the scripture the wise man built his house on the rock. Further, the rock is a hiding place.
So, as we go through difficult situations I say to myself - "God, hide me in rock which you are." I want to feel stability in this situation. I want to live Exodus 33:22:
Enter in the rock, "I will put you in a cleft of a rock and will cover you with my hand..."Isn't that great!! So, I say, Lord, please lead me and this on-line reader to the rock that is higher than I.
The next time you see a large rock - whether in the field, or such as makes a mountain have it remind you of God and what He can be to you...in every situation.
Lord, we are reminded that the rock also was a place of refreshment for you did open the rock in desert for your people. Would you please open "the spiritual rock" to this one and refresh them during this time? In Jesus' name.
Amen
