Words for Courageous Living

Watch the Conductor

When I was in high school and college I participated in both the stage and marching band. I played a cornet. I recall the name of my high school director as being a Mr. Bennett. He did most of the conducting, but from time to time I recall a David Carson would direct.

Now whether on the field or stage we as members of the band had to watch the director. All kind of signals would be given. BUT WHAT IF Mr. Bennett and Mr. Carson would both be conducting at the same time?? And what if both men had a different song they wanted to lead us in? Well, it would be like two men in a row boat each wanting to go in opposite directions. Each would be rowing against the other.

Now, our mind (thoughts) are much like that illustration. Which conductor are we to follow? In every situation here is the scenario. Conductor 1. Christ Jesus. Conductor 2, Satan, or the Devil. Take him first. We are told (Matt. 4) the devil came to Jesus to tempt (conduct) him. He said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these rocks to become bread." Now, conductor 1, Jesus - we are told in Heb. 12:2, to keep our eyes on HIM, the author and finisher of our faith. Further in 2 Cor 11:3,

"BUT I AM AFRAID THAT YOUR MINDS WILL BE LED WAY FROM YOUR TRUE AND PURE FOLLOWING OF CHRIST."

It boils down that if our mind listens to Satan AND Jesus we be like the men in the boat and will live in confusion. Our life will be disastrous. We must make every "instrument" of our soul bow to one conductor. In this, my friend, you will find peace and you will delight in the sweetest music this side of the cross - written in the key of B-saved.

LET'S PRAY

Lord, it is as if I can see th0e conductor of Jesus standing behind the music stand. He is striking his wane on it, getting the attention of each person (like this on-line reader) so a successful score can be played. Bless this one to that end, in the name of Jesus.

Amen
