Words for Courageous Living

Could Sins Be Like Weeds?

I was doing some work in the yard the other day and I noticed a number of little creatures-called weeds. They do not belong anywhere in my yard. I reached down and pulled up a few in one particular area in the back yard. I was successful. I thought to myself, this is not going to take much time, so I approached another area and pulled. The weed held "its soil". I pulled again...and again. I tightened my grip, but to no avail. The weed would not come out. So, taking a small trowel, I did some prying and UP it came. What I saw, I could not believe. The root was, like, 8" long. Wow. No wonder.

I then went over where some flowers were blooming and removed some thin weeds. In doing so, I could just hear the flowers say, "Oh boy, we have more room to grow, now."

Today, actually just about 30 minutes ago, I applied some weed and feed to our front and side yard. For the few dandelions trying to live in my yard - I said, "take that, and that". My yard does not have to deal with weeds. Now, what about my "soul's yard"? It, too, should not have to deal with foreign items, like worry, or doubting, or fear, or lack of faith. If I continue to let these "weeds" grow they will produce such a root system in our soul that we will be greatly and directly affected.

The writer of Hebrews put it this way (Hebrews 12:1):

"Let us remove every thing that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles..."

May I encourage you to dig out all the weeds in your life and let the growth of your soul be seen.

My prayer for you

Lord, bless this reader right now. Help them to identify and dig out all that keeps them from being who they can be in Christ Jesus. May your Holy Spirit give them courage to carry this out in the name of Jesus.

Amen
